Cast Metal Music Box Is Russian Cigarette Holder
By Beatrice Farmer
Dear Keith and Group, the cast music box in question is a Russian
cigarette box. They were made during the Cold War in Eastern Europe.
Rumour has it that they were made in the front of an intercontinental
missile plant.
The tune is very simple with no harmony, pinned in a plastic cylinder,
and does not even use all the notes of the comb. I have three
different boxes with this movement: a powder box, a trophy for a
sporting event that looks like the Olympic Torch, and the cigarette
box. They all play the same uninspired tune. Since the cylinder is
plastic, I thought it might be fun to add some pins for harmony, but
I don't know if I'll ever get it done.
This information was provided to me by an MBSI member from the
Frankfort area of Germany whose name I can not immediately remember.
