A couple of years ago someone put me on to MMD and I continue to
enjoy it daily. The job you guys do is amazing and your knowledge
is unbelievable. I look forward to receiving the MMD daily.
So often I wonder just how many subscribers there are across the
globe. Perhaps others would be interested to know also.
Thanks.

Raleigh, North Carolina - It is sunny and 75 degrees here today.
Probably much colder in some other places.
[ I'll ask Jody to give us report. A few years ago we had about
[ 2000 subscribers, as I recall. -- Editor (Robbie)
[ There are two subscriber databases. There's a legacy database
[ with entries that were made by hand by either myself or Robbie
[ when someone sent us an e-mail message with a "subscribe" request.
[ Staring in 2007, there has been software on the MMD website which
[ allows users to make their own entries in a an interactively
[ maintained database by registering directly on the website.
[
[ Yesterday's Digest was sent to 2680 subscribers. 1143 of those
[ subscribers are in the old, editor maintained database. The remaining
[ 1537 subscribers are in the new, do-it-yourself database. Since
[ that database has no entries in it older than 2007, the readership
[ has grown quite a bit in the last 4 years.
[
[ Subscribers are from all over the globe, and from many ISPs. I
[ alogize for the size of the following report, but Robbie and I
[ think its really intersting. Please note that many non-US
[ subscribers have e-mail addresses with US registered domains,
[ so you can't tell exactly how many people are outside the US, but
[ there are lots!

[ The new self registration system allows subscribers that are
[ logged in to update their own e-mail address and to turn the Digest
[ off temporarily for vacation periods. These features aren't used
[ as frequently as we hoped.
[
[ Good "netiquette" requires that a self-registration system send a
[ confirmation e-mail containing a "confirmation URL" so that it can
[ be determined that the e-mail address being added was requested by
[ it's owner and not a 3rd party such as a spammer. We've had a lot
[ of problems with unconfirmed registrations. Perhaps a few are from
[ registrations fraudulently submitted by 3rd parties. Our best guess
[ is that virtually all of them are because our confirmation messages
[ getting marked as SPAM.
[
[ At this time there are an additional 580 unconfirmed registrations
[ in the automated database! If your registration is one of these
[ unconfirmed registrations (you'd probably be reading this on the web,
[ not in your inbox), please send us an e-mail and let us know you
[ had a problem! Use rollreq-1101@mmdigest.com.geentroep [delete .geentroep]
[
[ So, the Digest's readership has grown a lot in the last few years.
[ My thanks to everyone who participates in the Digest -- readers,
[ writers, the editors, and our financial contributors! --Jody
