Restoring Weber Model 12 Pedal-Electric Duo-Art
By Jonathan Holmes
I have a Model 12 Weber Duo-Art grand piano that has been in stock
for a while. I did try and sell it but have now decided to start
restoration in my workshop. Having dismantled it I have found that the
switch which normally has a brass cover is partially missing. I am
looking to acquire another complete switch or at least the domed top.
I would also welcome a copy of any tubing diagram that someone has drawn
up for this particular model. Although I took drawings and photographs
so many tubes and trunking were totally perished and I have no idea at
present where they should go, although I could rack my brains and draw
one up.
The piano is a Duo-Art but is a Pedal Electric and is about 6'7" in
length. It is unusual as it has the stack above the keyboard behind
the tracker bar, roll motor and tracking device. The pneumatics in
the stack are very small and play onto a special lever on the grand
whippen. The Model 12 was the last model introduced by Aeolian in the
UK and is a graceful instrument with double fluted legs with a small
amount of carving. Mine is in a mahogany case with its original finish
and has a flame veneered mahogany top.
As far as I can see no changed or real prior restoration has been
undertaken so the work will probably easier, and no white glue would
have been used! I have all the service manual and the grand tubing
chart but that is quite different.
Best,
Jonathan Holmes
