Hi MMD, In response to Lee Rothrock writing in MMD of 14 February,
I also am an almost neophyte. My suggestion is jump in with both feet
and immerse yourself in the process.
A couple years ago, with the help of Bill Klinger from Arkansas and
Bob Stout from Independence, we successfully MIDI-fied a 52-key Bruder
fairground organ. We are now in the process of MIDI-fying a 2-manual
6-rank player pipe organ. The first three ranks have been successfully
MIDI-fied and we are working on the second three ranks.
The results and the enormous amount of music available for free
download on the Internet make all of the effort worthwhile. I now have
a laptop computer beside the organ onto which I have downloaded all of
the MIDI music from Terry Smythe and my Bruder MIDI files. Now the key
to accomplishing what Lee wants and a lot more is to download vanBasco's
Karaoke Player which is a free MIDI playing system.
If my addition is correct there are about 5000 plus songs that are on
that laptop. I probably won't live long enough to hear them all.
