Unknown Tunes Played by Debain Antiphonel

Greetings from the Bronx! Regarding the problem of playing the "MP3"
files, the files are shown on the web page as .mp3 , but if you save
them to file they appear as .mpga . I use a free program known as
IrfanView (virus free, and updated on a regular basis). Even this
program will not recognize .mpga extension.

You have to change the extension to .mp3 and then it will work (or at
least it works in IrfanView).  As I said, IrfanView is a free program;
it will not only play MP3 files, but also other sound files as well as
video and picture files. It is not proprietary but can be associated
with a myriad of file types. Just go to IrfanView.com and download
two (2) files, the program itself and the plug-ins. (It is an excellent
picture editor too: resizing, format conversion, color correction, etc.)

Hope some of this helps,
D.F. Rowe

 [ At http://filext.com/file-extension/MPGA : "File Extension MPGA --
[ File type: Mpeg-1 Layer 3 Audio Stream"
 [ At http://www.fileinfo.com/extension/mpga : ".MPGA File Extension --
[ MPGA files are basically .MP3 files with a different file extension."
[ RealAudio player is known to change the extension from mp3 to mpga.

[ Here's some technical information about the MMD website. The files are
[ presented by the webserver with names that do, indeed, end in ".mp3"
[ (lower case). The webserver preceeds the transmission with a label
[ of the type of file it thinks it is: "Content-type: audio/mpeg".
[ The browser it supposed to look the "Content-type" up in a table
[ to decide how to interpret the data stream. Typically, the most
[ recently installed program capable of playing MP3 files will be
[ chosen. I only know how to check this association for Firefox:
[ go to Tools->Options->Applicatons. I would like to hear from someone
[ if they know how to check this in Microsoft IE or Google Chrome.
 [
[ As for the file being saved with the extension mpga, I'm mystified.
[ Would you tell us what version of browser and OS you are using ?
[ Did you right-click on the link and say "save-as", or did you save
[ it from the pop-up window of an application the browser started for
[ you ? Thanks in advance for the information! -- Jody
