With deep sadness we report on the passing of MBSI past president
Coulson Conn. He was diagnosed with malignant mesothelioma in late
2009. He died early in the morning on December 14, 2010, with his
wife, Kathleen, by his side.
I spoke with Coulson several times during his illness. Though he
knew he was gravely ill he always seemed to hope for the best.
Whether it be as a collector or in his profession as a physician,
Coulson was there for anyone who needed help. I consider myself
fortunate to have known him and that he thought of me as a good friend.
Coulson was a past president of MBSI and was recipient of the Q. David
Bowers Literary Award for his many interesting articles pertaining to
disc musical boxes. He was chairman of the MBSI nominating committee
for many years and served in that capacity when he was stricken with
the illness.
The memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, January 22, 2011, 2 PM
to 4 PM, at Gradyville United Methodist Church, Route 352, Gradyville,
PA 19039. It is my understanding that several members of the National
Capital Chapter of MBSI are planning to attend.
