Meaning of "Lied und Yale" in German Music
By Adam G. Ramet
The meaning of "Lied und Yale" is "Song and Yale". Yale refers to the
"Yale Blues" [song] to which an individual set of dance steps was once
created. Songs played with the Yale's characteristic tempo and feel
are known as "Yales" in the same way that other tunes are collectively
described as "Charleston", "Black Bottom" and "Shimmy". It's a UK &
European thing -- far more than a US thing -- so far as I have seen
over the years.
Happy New Year and best regards,
