Wurlitzer Band Organ on "Auction Kings" TV Show
By Glen R. Perye Jr.
All of the shows -- whether it is this one, "Pawn Stars" or "The
Pickers" -- are scripted and the actions and the price and even the
banter between the parties are scripted beforehand. After all,
it is TV and even the unreality shows have to be interesting.
Something else -- the general lack of details about the instrument,
etc., is planned so the general viewer's eyes don't roll back up into
their heads. It is nice to see a band organ given a starring role, but
you had to know that it was going to be featured when they had it on
the cover of the catalog, some of which take months to put the auction
together.
And you better believe he knows more about the subjects and items than
it appears or else he wouldn't be in business long. A case in point --
the semi-load of doors from a picker here in Michigan. Nobody is going
to pay for freight on a trailer load of anything to a auction house
without confirmed approval or flat out payment for said doors. And if
he didn't know what was in it why would any businessman sign for it?! ;)
