Restore America's Carousel Organs
By Mikey Mills

Matthew, what I said about the B.A.B. rolls on the model 38 Ruth was
pretty much sarcasm; look where it got the model 36 Ruth in Washington
(state). I don't quite see how the organ could get much worse, though,
unless you convert it to a scale like style 150 rolls. The organ at
Crescent park is playing better than it was but it really should be
converted back to its original scale.

Now back to the main topic -- some organs also brought up were the
Six Flags Great Adventure 89-key Gaviolis, and yes, there are two of
them at the park.

Also, Matthew, Cedar Fair took care of their mechanical music in
general 10 years ago before Mr. Kinzel took over. Most of their
organs were playing including Knott's and Cedar Point's 153s, to what
I understand, the Bruder(?) at Valleyfair playing 150 rolls still plays
along with the Dorney Park organs.

What I also didn't mention is that Cedar Point also has a Mills Violano
and an orchestrion along with a barrel piano. I also heard there are
a few others at Knott's.

What was brought up a bunch in this topic, though, from the emails
I received is how some of the organs have been vandalized! How awful
is that?! According to an email I received, the Six Flags over Texas
153 had soda pop poured down the pipes while it was playing. At an
organ rally I went to I also heard that a couple of kids tampered with
the organ pipes at a rally a few years back while their mother just
stood there.

It's quite awful and a simple solution is to put the organ outside of
the carousel, with a closed gate around it, or put a protective facade
over the actual one.

I have received a few hopeful emails, though, that there may be a chance
of getting some of the organs fixed or working properly. It's just a
matter of time I suppose and with some hard work, they could be playing
restored to the public the way they are supposed to be playing!
