Seek 14-1/2" Discs for Guitarophone Player Zither
By Dave Bowers

I am the owner of a Guitarophone, Lot No. 1 in Bonhams New York City
sale of December 7, 2010. Trouble is, there are no discs. Can someone
help?

Also, being ever interested in unusual things, I would be interested
in corresponding with any other Guitarophone owners. The late Marty
Roenigk had one a few years back and mentioned that before then he had
another.

I would also be interested in learning more about the manufacture and
distribution of these, made by Otto Schmidt in Jersey City, New Jersey,
in 1902 and 1903. It seems that the Guitarophone Company of New
England operated from the Schmidt factory (hardly in New England!) and
was capitalized for $10,000. The two instruments Marty Roenigk had,
and the one I have, are all coin operated. Perhaps the Guitarophone
Company was set up to place these on locations -- explaining their
rarity today.

Thanks!

Dave Bowers
