I just couldn't stand it any longer! In respect to the continuing
comment on Zenph and his issues, there _is_ a composition of Fritz
Kreisler called "Liebesleid" (Love's Sorrow) which is matched by his
famous piece "Liebesfreud" (Love's Joy). If you are unfamiliar with
German the mistake is understandable but let's get with it, as all of
the issues of the Rachmaninoff in the CEUS Project, as well as the
(78 rpm) and subsequently of the roll (Ampico) as well as the Telarc
issues are of the "Sorrow."
You can see that Rachmaninoff felt the opposites were a natural for his
transcription, and proceeded accordingly. I may be mistaken about the
Liebesleid (I seem to remember it from a piano issue in the earlier
days when it was still thought that Kreisler had simply adapted pieces
by earlier composers).
As for what Mr. Walker is doing with his Zenph issues, I for one will
not shout "Hoax", as others have, because he is perfectly right and
entitled to improve what we hear. I do, however, lament the slowness
of his productions. The Gould was a sensation, yes, but what followed
it, and how long did it take? You all know the answer.
