There is an early gutted Charles M. Stieff upright player in good
condition that's available in Baltimore, Maryland, to anyone that wants
it. A plus is that it's already at a piano moving company so getting
it home would be easy! It's in nice condition with the exception of
it having suffered the horrors of a player action removal. It has a
heavy, nice case design with original finish, and original ivory keys
in good condition but with some splits.
Even as just a piano it's a great instrument, as the Stieff was one
of the finest pianos ever built. It had to be a very early mechanism,
judging from the truncated style of the keyslip and the appearance of
the levers within it (which are all still there), and the huge maple
struts in the bottom that at one time held the bellows pumps. 99% of
Stieffs had an Auto-Deluxe (Autopiano) player mechanism, but if this
one did, it was a very early style that I've never seen before.
If someone has an orphaned player action for this piano, it would be
a great save. Contact me by email if there's any interest. Oh --
and it has to be gone in 10 days or it will be destroyed since the
building is being cleared out.
