QRS 494 "Pipe Dream Blues" Oriental Fantasy
By Richard Groman
Robert Perry: My original copy of QRS 186 "Ching Chong" features
a blue printed tab "QRS Co. Chicago Ill." The first stencil printing
along the left edge just has PIANO 186 (no city stamp).
For all of you who like the roll of "Ching Chong", Keystone will
be re-releasing QRS 494, "Pipe Dream Blues", another quasi-Oriental
inspired fox trot novelty played by Baxter & Kortlander.
As much as I like "Ching Chong", "Pipe Dream Blues" has lyrics that
feature every known Asian stereotype of 1918 all wrapped around (with
a bow) the smokiest opium den ever featured on a roll! Thanks to Paul
Manganaro for lending the roll for re-release. This is sure to be
a great singing party favorite.
