Hello MMD -- I have been browsing through the MMD Archives and I have
many of the old movies with mechanical music.
About the Twilight Zone episode of "Piano in the House," the first roll
that Barry Morse puts on is "Sabre Dance" (check the perfs). I have
this roll in my collection, but the piano is playing a Cook version of
"Smiles". When the song is done, we see an Ampico roll grinding into
reroll before it gets to the proper perf.
The second roll he plays _is_ "Sabre Dance", but it's an Ampico roll.
The keys don't drop with the music. I don't believe this piano is
playing at all, but it's still one of my favorites.

Brian Lackie asked for the name of a 1951 movie. It was "Hollywood
Story"; it stars Richard Conte, Julia Adams and Jim Bachus -- a nice
mystery about a player piano. I taped it in 1981, another favorite of
mine.
Then there was an old Edgar Kennedy comedy short from the 1930's.
He is a piano tuner, and when he is done, he runs his finger all the
way up the scale, and every note is A=440! A side-splitter! Darn!
I wish I taped that one, but it was late 1970's and I was able to
afford a VCR in 1980. Can you believe $1200.00 for a mono VCR? It
was a Hitachi, but it lasted 17 years with a heck of a lot of use.
