I've watched the postings on this Digest for about two years and have
(if I can be so bold, though I hope I'm incorrect) noticed a small
gradual decline in interests to acquire or buy player pianos, whether
renovated or in need of renovation. So, here's a change...
I'm interested in acquiring an upright player in good condition
which must have an attractive case (as ornate as possible). That is,
this player will be placed in my living room in an old 1883 Victorian
painted lady home, and I want it to both look good and entertain my
friends and family. I'd like it to be as old as possible, while still
having a reasonable selection of rolls. The player could be motorized
or pump, depending upon its age and value.
Now, relative to price, I'm not rich and have a big budget (or my wife
would kill me). What would be possible to purchase for $1000 or less?
I know it's not much, but it's what I have to work with.
By the way, I'm located in a Chicago suburb, as this affects
transportation challenges and costs. The player will be placed on the
ground floor, but would have to navigate a front door and four steps.
If it matters, I'm very mechanical and have a wood workshop of my own.
I've worked on Regina music boxes but never on a player piano.
Feel free to email me directly with any leads or suggestions.
Thanks,
Tony Stratton
