Melvyn Wright (the extraordinary Noteur Britannique) posted a link to an
old BBC program from 1985, "The Great Egg Race," with Prof. Heinz Wolf,

Three teams try to create a robotic pianist (push up player) that is
capable of playing a tune. The program also includes a demonstration
of a Pianocorder half way through.
