Response to Mark Forer [100920 MMDigest]: I'm glad you didn't
blink during that nickelodeon scene in 'Boardwalk Empire,' cause
that was me on the piano accompanying a Fatty Arbuckle movie.
Sometimes their attempts to be authentic are in vain (for example,
they didn't use my own playing for the scene (I was playing Felix
Arndt's "Marionette"). Instead, they overdubbed a 1927 Zez Confrey
Ampico roll!
I worked in a recording session for several hours, generating vintage
melodies for miscellaneous scenes of the series. Some numbers were
recorded with my piano and a fine harpist named Grace Paradise. The
tunes I selected included "Toyland," "Look For The Silver Lining,"
"Dardanella," "Kiss Me Again," "Rose Room Fox Trot" and "Left All
Alone Again Blues."
My friend Vince Giordano acted as assistant music supervisor on the
series, and in some of the "Babette's" nightclub scenes I am the
pianist with his band, up there behind a balustrade. I'll tell Vince
that his music is already being appreciated by readers of the MMD.
Thanks,
