I received a phone call today from a very nice guy associated with
a church in Washington, D.C. He is trying to find a good home for
a Chickering Ampico model A baby grand piano. It is reportedly
in complete, untouched, unrestored condition, plain case. A local
technician has informed him that it may have tuning instability issues.
If no one saves it, it goes to the dump. It is located on the second
floor of the church in their music room and will require professional
piano movers to get it out. I'd take it, but I already have Ampico A's
in both an art-case Knabe grand and in a Chickering upright, so I'm
doing fine in that area.
He has offered me the Ampico mechanism if no one takes the entire
piano, so don't bother him if gutting out the Ampico is all you want
to do. We would both of course like to see it rescued in its entirety.
