Band Organs at Tilden Park, Berkeley, Calif.
By Bruce Pier

[ Ref. Claudine Jones in 100907 MMDigest and Ellen E. Thomsen

One of the main factors that have killed the organs at Tilden Park
is that the building has been glassed in, so when the organs were
played the sound intensity levels inside exceeded the 80 decibels
maximum now enforced by the State of California for amusement rides.

This limited sound level is supposed to protect the hearing of the
ride operators, whose ears are already shot from using their iPods
cranked to levels that are audible to a passerby.
