[ Ref 100827 MMDigest, Dvorak Op. 85 No. 2 "Dalliance" ArtEcho 3210
First of all, thank you, Robbie, for the cross reference on this roll
being cut by Ampico by another name. On Josh Rapier's web site he has
both rolls being played, I would not have known this without Robbie's
help. Both rolls are played by Marguerite Volavy, the Art Echo version
is, at least to me, not as bright.
I now wonder if the Art Echo roll is same [Ampico master] note field
but with Art Echo coding, thus the reason its expression is different.
When rolls were licensed to be used by other companies for their pianos,
coding could not be the same.
This leads me to another question: which version is the way Marguerite
_really_ played the roll? Also into consideration is what the editors
did to the roll after she made the master. We can't ask her so I guess
we'll never know. I am most impressed by the Art Echo roll!

[ Ampico 68393-F, "Toying" from Tone Pictures, Op 85 No 2 (Allegretto
[ leggiero), by Dvorak, played by Marguerite Volavy, was released in
[ December, 1927, after Volavy left QRS and returned to work at Ampico.
[ Most likely she edited the performance and applied the expression
[ coding herself, with guidance from Dr. Hickman on coding for the
[ forthcoming Ampico B system. (Ref. Ampico Rollography by Elaine
[ Obenchain.) Maybe Josh Rapier could compare the note field of the
[ Ampico roll with the ArtEcho roll. -- Robbie
