Kennywood Park Band Organ
By Joe Kemph

I, too, have fond memories of Kennywood Park and the Wurlitzer 153
band organ.  It has been many years since I have visited Kennywood;
the last song I heard was "Sugar in the Morning, Sugar in the Evening,
Sugar at Supper Time". I always wondered what roll that song is on?

What I fear is that, like at many other parks, the organ will be
removed or, worse yet, left in place to deteriorate.

This summer I had my 30-key Alan Pell band organ at several local
events. Like always, the older folks and the families with young kids
will stop, look and listen. Some will go around to the back to watch
the drum actions. For the first time three teenaged girls stopped to
look and listen; usually the teens walk past and not even look at it --
what a shame!

I wonder if a band organ could play "rap" and "hip-hop" music? Maybe
that will get the kids to stop and listen!
