Some original Wurlitzer 165 rolls are missing tunes. When they
were recut, tunes from other rolls were often substituted. In a few
instances the substitutions were out of character for the roll.
A project to restore the correct tunes to these rolls by having them
newly arranged by Rich Olsen has now been completed. There are twelve
tunes, and Play-Rite has produced them all on one roll, which is
available for $90.
These twelve tunes are each punched at the proper tempo for their
position on the Play-Rite roll each belongs on. Therefore the 12-tune
roll is really not playable as a single roll. The tunes need to be
separated and placed on their proper rolls, replacing whatever is now
on them. I have done that with all the copies in the Seabreeze Park
collection, and the results are fine.
For people who do not have recuts of all the rolls involved, single
copies are available for $15 each and will include shipping, new
labels, and instructions for splicing the tune onto its roll.
Here are the tunes and their positions:
"The Veleta; New Round Dance" -- 6502, tune 2
"Girls Of France" -- 6546, tune 9
"Smiles" -- 6546, tune 10
"I'm Always Chasing Rainbows" -- 6554, tune 1 (replacing an
unsatisfactory B.A.B. version sometimes found as tune 3)
"My Home Town Is A One-Horse Town But It's Big Enough For Me --
6570, tune 1
"Honolulu Eyes" -- 6570, tune 2
"Civilization" -- 6578, tune 6
"The Sheik Of Araby" -- 6606, tune 1
"When You Walked Out (Somebody Else Walked Right In)" -- 6618, tune 2
"If I Knew You Then As I Know You Now" -- 6618, tune 3
"Listening In" -- 6618, tune 19
"Telling It To The Daisies" -- 6658, tune 1
For those not wanting to do the splicing, I will do it for an
additional $10 per roll, to cover shipping and handling.
