Whether or not you consider recordings of pianola rolls played with
care on a well-functioning instrument [as 'mechanical'] is a moot
point. Personally, I would argue that, although mechanically produced
to a greater or lesser extent, music can never be "mechanical".
Be that as it may, I just want to draw the group's attention to a new
CD which will be available shortly. Michel Chaigne of Exeter has
entrusted me to play some rolls from his amazing collection in order
to make them available to a wider audience. Most of the music is
early jazz and "boogie woogie" by Clarence Johnson and James Blythe
-- two legendary artists. I hope to have a review copy available
soon, and hope those people looking for something new in the way of
"recordings of mechanical music" may find something of interest here.
