Hi all, I'm doing a limited recut run of a historically important
piano roll played by Chicago pianist Jimmy Blythe:
US #40874
Poor Little Me (Blues)
Gene Burdette, 1922
Pianist, Jimmy Blythe
I've created a YouTube video of this roll, complete with roll
image including lyrics: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z90U_O5YLBg
This roll may have been Blythe's first. It was issued in October,
1922, which means it was probably recorded in September. Blythe's
first Columbia rolls appear around the same time. It was certainly
the only roll he ever recorded for United States Music Roll Company
which was also based in Chicago. It's very interesting to compare
the roll with Blythe's numerous performances for the other major
Chicago-based roll manufacturer, Columbia/Capitol.
The punch matrix for the roll was reconstructed by Anthony Robinson of
the UK, resulting in a roll completely accurate to the manufacturer's
intentions. One major defect was picked up and fixed (missing notes
due to perforator error; luckily the area was repeated later into the
roll). The rolls will be manufactured and shipped by Bob Billings, who
you will pay directly. As you know Bob has a long-standing reputation
for integrity and quality product in our hobby.
The price is $19 including shipping by Media Mail to the 48 States.
International orders are $25 including shipping.
I am also having a private recutting run of "Never Again", Vocalstyle
#12994, played by Ruth Mack done for her family, again with the matrix
restored by Anthony. This is probably her best roll and is described
as a 'sumptuous arrangement' by Dave Jasen in one of his books. There
may be an opportunity for anyone who wants a copy of this roll to add
it to their order, depending on interest. The price would be $15 to
add the extra roll to the order (this includes shipping). You can
listen to a MIDI file of the roll here:

Please contact me directly by email (remember to remove the .geentroep)
to express your interest, and supply a shipping address. Bob will
invoice you directly once the orders have been collected.
Regards,
Robert Perry
[ Another composition by Gene Burdette was "Chinaman Blues", published
[ in 1923 by Erksine Tate & Co. Inc., Chicago. A piano roll of this
[ tune was recorded by J. Lawrence Cook; I couldn't determine the roll
[ company or catalog number. -- Robbie
