Don't know about George in particular, but from my viewpoint I'd say
they were darned good, as I was a teenager in New Jersey myself and we
had a Telelectric. Never did get it working, as Dad never did find one
of the magnet banks for it.

Because the World War came along, with a huge need for brass for
artillery and rifle ammunition, and to be sure that brass wasn't held in
inventory for "unnecessary" purposes, a huge inventory tax was levied on
brass items held in stock -- like the brass rolls for the Telectric.
Have you ever held one of these? I think they weighed a good 3 to 4
pounds _each!_
