I recently came across five music rolls that I am not familiar with.
They are all Universal rolls, made by The Aeolian Company, 157 E. 32nd
St. Since Aeolian moved into its new headquarters on 42nd St. around
1911, these rolls would seem to predate that year. The rolls are
11-3/8-inch wide and are cut 6-to-the-inch, like 65-note rolls, but the
flanges are something I have not seen before. They are red fibre disks
about 1-5/8-inch in diameter.
In the center is a large brass grommet about 1 inch in diameter, with
a brass rod running across the middle of the hole, obviously this is
the way the roll was rewound, although the flanges are exactly the same
on both sides of the roll.
Can anyone tell me what instrument these rolls are for? Is anyone
interested in buying them?
