Recutting Stravinsky Firebird Suite Rolls
By Bruce Grimes

Several times I've come close to having the Duo-Art rolls of the
Firebird Suite recut but each time something has come up, always
including perforators that were simply not accurate enough to do the
job right.

It presently seems possible to have the Duo-Art set cut, and cut well.
I have had leaders for Audiographic rolls printed before on museum
grade vellum and I can show examples of the quality. We have American
Audiographic roll boxes available at this time too, and can possibly
manage to even use original Aeolian metal spools (or you could re-use
some left-over spool you have).

I know there have been real questions raised by many, including myself,
about the musicality of Mr. Stravinsky's work -- Aeolian once referred
to him as "the Prince of Dissonance". However, if there were enough
folks who wanted complete sets to make it worthwhile, then it could
happen.

The rolls could be supplied to you as just recut rolls with no boxes
or spools, or rolls with boxes and spools, or rolls with Audiographic
leaders, boxes and spools. I do not think they will be cheap, but they
would be much cheaper than buying the rare originals.

If enough of us commit I think it can happen. Let me know if you're
interested.
