Calliope Building Plans by Bob Stanoszek
By Ken Schweim
I have the plans for building a model CA-43 calliope written by R. M.
Stanoszek. I think I bought it circa 1980. If anybody has a set and
has building knowledge of this thing, I would sure appreciate some help.
There is lots of explanation for the metal frame and miscellaneous
stuff but only a blueprint for the manifold valves. Although the
blueprint shows the proper placement for the valve assembly components,
there is no information on how to actually put it together.
Are the valve tubes made out of copper? Did they actually cut the
tubes at 45 degrees and weld/solder them into 90 degree units? If they
did, how did they solder the brass tube in place without the tubing
solder letting go?
What is the 3/8" retainer that holds the spring and how did they
attach it to the 3/16" brass? Did they actually use 1/8" brass rod in
3/16" brass tubing or did they use 5/32"? If anybody has built this
thing I would sure like to compare notes. Thanks for any help you can
provide.
