I just heard of a piano that is available. The owner needs to get it
out of the house, not immediately but soon. I will be getting more
details and hopefully some pictures. We both agree that the ideal
situation would be to find someone who will treat the piano with
respect and not break it up. I am not sure whether I am prepared to do
this, but am considering it. The market is depressed, and this may be
just another Weber that bites the dust.
It is a 1917 Duo-Art, 73", intact and maybe original, but possibly
restored previously. Good ivories, few dead notes, one missing string.
I could detect no evidence of pinblock or sound board horrors from
listening over the phone. It will be a four-hour trip for me to
see/hear it, and I might do that.
The wood may be walnut. It seems to have a remote pump whose case
matches the piano. But it sounds as though the pump is not big enough
to be a steamboat pump. It is described as being as large as a typical
70's stereo speaker, not horizontal in form. It is at the back-leg
position on the piano; so the owner does not seem to be describing a
foot pump. I would like any ideas about what it might be.
Please contact me, and I will relay any interest to the owner. She has
a lot of work to do on the house and cannot entertain a lot of lookers.
But she does want to do the right thing for this piano.
