The harder rolls to find are the Wilcox & White 44-note rolls and the
Aeolian 46-note rolls for player pump organs. These player organs were
priced for the middle class that barely afforded them, while the larger
pump organs -- 58-notes on up to the 116-note organs -- were for the
very wealthy, obviously, because they could afford them plus the rolls.
I truthfully do not know if that is the answer why one sees the
larger rolls more often. This history has been totally lost and only
assumptions can be made. You can look on eBay. They do come up once
in a great while, and you can look at music roll auctions. They are
out there but few in numbers.
People have tried to do re-cuts, but financially speaking to cut one
roll is way too costly, then again if you cut enough rolls to make it
worthwhile, that person may end up with rolls that will not be sold for
years. Perhaps the best thing is if a decent size group were to get
together and decide on maybe ten rolls and have them re-cut, knowing
that all will be paid for, then you might have a chance.
