Hi all, I came across a photoplayer in the basement store of Retonio's
Magic Gallery in Degersheim, Switzerland. At the time I was installing
the Wurlitzer 260 for him which he had purchased from the Ashorne Hall
collection. (We had a Wurlitzer Photoplayer at Ashorne, too.)
There were a large number of mechanical instruments in Retonio's cellar
in various stages of decay. This particular photoplayer had pipe ranks
in the bottom of the piano and one side cabinet, if memory serves. And
the two obligatory spool frames for the continual accompaniment of
silent films.
As to the manufacturer, I've no idea; the "who did what, when and where"
has never held an interest to me as a restorer. It was the mechanisms
that held the fascination.
I have heard (and I know not of the truth of it) that Reto is no longer
at the Magic Gallery. It must have been quite a headache moving all
that stuff out.
Cheers, Paul Camps
P.S.: Does any-one know where the Wurlitzer 260 organ is now?
