Seek Vacuum Gauge for Player Calliope
By Richard Price

I am new at mechanical music instrument restoration. I am restoring
a calliope and I need to check the pneumatic pressures (vacuum).

The calliope has a positive pressure indicator on the air supply to
the whistles -- it indicates 0 to 30 ounces per square inch (0 to 35
inches of water column). This gauge is from Fisher Controls.

I have looked all over the web but can find nothing like I need. Does
anyone out there know a source of such a vacuum gauge? Many thanks.

[ The airmotor of the 1920s Tangley calliope can demand more than
[ 20 inches water gauge of vacuum when it rewinds the 10-tune music
[ roll, so I recommend a gauge that goes to 30 inches vacuum. See
[ http://www.nciweb.net/capsuhel.htm (brass case optional) and
 [ http://www.nciweb.net/magnehel.htm -- Robbie

[ Magnahelic guages show up frequently on eBay. Be sure to check
[ the pressure range of the guage before bidding. Some of them are
[ much to sensitive for this application! -- Jody
