Hello, I would like some more information on the making of a comb
for a music box or, in my case, a musical movement for a carriage
clock. I have here a movement from the early 1900s with 36 teeth.
A whole lot of teeth are broken off and the rest is terribly out of
tune. It is a simple comb, no dampers but with lead weights attached
to many teeth.
Making a replacement comb comes to mind but I have no idea what exact
type of steel to use and how to go about it best. Maybe someone here
can help? Maybe someone even has a replacement movement or parts.
I can send pictures.
Kind regards,
Bernt Damm
Sydney
P.S.: Robbie, is MMD ever going graphic?

[ We do, from time to time, post pictures in the MMD Gallery. We
[ will do this when the pictures are expected to be useful to MMD

[ article (more substantial than just askign a question). Currently
[ its a lot of work to put them up and the messages have to be sent
[ with their attachments to a special address for Robbie to process.

[ I dream of providing Robbie with the kind of software automation
[ that would make what Bernt asks about possible with the editing
[ time available. Someday, I hope... -- Jody
