Reducing Pump Motor Vibration
By Randy Hammond
I have an upright Steinway Duo Art, Style S with a steamboat pump.
The piano has a vibration when playing and I am sure that the problem
is caused by the way the motor is mounted. It is the right motor for
the piano but there is nothing that cushions the motor vibrations.
The motor basically is held in place by a wide leather strap that is
over four steel pins on the back side and three leather straps that
are screwed into the cabinet of the piano. I know that this is a poor
description but am I missing some rubber or felt mounts that are
supposed to be absorbing vibrations?
I would appreciate some info from anyone who has rebuilt one of these
before. The problem is not in the steamboat pump itself. If anyone
has a diagram that would help. I have never seen another one of these
in person.
