"A.K.O.K." Piano Roll Plays Hungarian Czardas
By John Phillips
Hello MMD. I have just been sent a photo of an A.K.O.K. roll label.
The title of the piece is "Lakadalom van a mi utcankba." Underneath in
barely legible print is "Hallgato ogyvalog" or something close to that.
I don't recognise the language at all. However, the label also has
"Player Roll" and "1.00" printed thereon.
I suspect that this means that it is a one dollar roll made in the U.S.
and it was intended for a niche market of European migrants.
Does anyone know anything about this brand?
John Phillips in Hobart, Tasmania.
[ I recognized the language since I toured in Hungary several years
[ ago. The song title means "Lakadalom is our street" and it's
[ a Hungarian dance (csardas) often played at weddings. Ref.
