Ray Finch need look no further than Art Reblitz's previous book,
"Piano Servicing, Tuning and Rebuilding For The Professional, The
Student, The Hobbyist". This book was published by Vestal Press
in 1976.
This is a really excellent book which covers everything you need to
know if you are embarking on rebuilding a piano. It has helped me
with numerous piano rebuilds over the years. It covers, in precise
detail, the order of work when rebuilding and regulating the entire
piano action.
As far as buying piano parts, I am unable to help within the USA
since I live across the pond. Here in Great Britain we have two major
piano suppliers who can be persuaded to sell to non-professionals and
hobbyists. Piano suppliers tend to be rather protective about their
trade, but this is more to protect themselves and the end customers
from cowboy technicians. You may need to persuade any supplier that
you are a bona-fide hobbyist and are not going to start ruining
everybody else's pianos.
With best regards,
Nicholas Simons
