Unknown 65-note Rolls Perforated by Don Rand
By Brian Smith
Hi MMDers, I have this big box of coin piano rolls that were
punched many years ago by Don Rand. What I don't know is if he
used National music roll arrangements as the source.
National changer rolls are 12 inches wide but the rolls I have are
11.25 inches wide and punched 6-to-the-inch (65-note). I actually
made a special spool to play them on my A-roll piano. They sound
great, the arrangements are great. They are mostly popular tunes
from the 'twenties.
Don did not put leader tabs on them, I think he said in case somebody
wanted to put on changer tabs. I can't get hold of Don to get the
story on these. I'm pretty sure they were National rolls recut by Don.
Does anybody know about these recuts? They're still a mystery to me.
Thanks,
Brian Smith
