Singing Bird Clock by Emilian Wehrle
By Justin Miller
I wanted to share with the MMD community the news of the most recent
acquisition to my Black Forest clock collection. Earlier this week
I located and purchased a musical singing bird clock. This piece was
made by Emilian Wehrle in Furtwangen circa 1875.
It is a beautiful neo-classical style table clock, with a robust 8-day
three-train movement. On the hour the large mechanical bird on the top
of the clock comes alive with the bird song, and following the song the
hour is counted on a large gong.
I have taken several photos of the clock, along with a 2-minute video,
which can be seen on my web site documenting my collection of Black
Forest clocks. For those that are interested you can click the link
and check it out: http://www.blackforestclocks.org/
As a side note I am always looking to expand my private collection of
Black Forest clocks. If anyone has anything they think would be of
interest please contact me directly at my email address below.
Comments on this piece are also welcome.
Best,
Justin J. Miller
