Female Mechanical Music Enthusiasts
Here are two thoughts on the general subject, from a male, and not
a comment on any particular individual:
1. I lucked out. I met my wife via a match-up service run by a
"classical" music radio station in San Francisco back in about 1990.
The idea was that you not sign up unless you were so interested;
thus any couple had at least one thing in common.
A great idea -- worked for us, as a starting point. She knew nothing
about players (I had one) but she knew most of the old standards. As
she became familiar with the music she grew to enjoy my one-steps,
two-steps, WW1 songs, blues and boogie, (but never the rags). There
are other things that we don't share a mutual interest in, and that's
healthy.
People do change over time. You can't choose someone just because they
are right now just like you in one zone of interest, because they may
not be in 10 years. The key is flexibility.
2. As for those women who don't like _your_ music or machines (or
sports all weekend), imagine reversing the roles. Just how interested
are you in what _she_ likes to do in her leisure time? Do you try to
show an interest or at least participate in hers, or do you just expect
her to abandon her stuff and pay rapt attention to yours? Would you
ever even consider doing that for her? Why should she, for you?
