Brian, While I'm happily de-facto-ed, with someone who might not
have the passion I have but who enjoys it nonetheless, there are women
out there who enjoy this. Maybe my passion comes from the fact that
I grew up in the environment as my father was an avid collector, and
from a young age I was set to sand, polish, assemble and assist.
There have been times in my life where I was sick of it (specifically
as a teenager) but the love never dies.
In the past I've been described as "weird but entertaining" by my
friends and companions at school, because I was not into "Wham" and
"DuranDuran" but loved my music boxes, pianolas, jazz and Gregorian
chants. It took me to mid-30s to find someone who put up with my
passion and joins it (a little).
So, don't panic! There are women out there like me, we just hide
better than the others. In 'Agony Aunt' mode, maybe it is time to
throttle along some of the great mechanical music festivals we have
in Europe (and USA?) -- you'll meet many a family who all have the
passion.
Good luck, Brian!
