Transcribing a Piano Roll to Sheet Music
By John Farmer

Carrying out such a transcription "by hand" would be laborious,
I should think, but utilising computers might be an option. There are
a number of people around with roll scanners who could scan the roll
and convert it to a MIDI file. The MIDI file can then be opened with
Cakewalk Music Creator (or similar program), which, using the "staff"
view will convert it to conventional music notation which can be
printed.

This, obviously, gives a somewhat mechanical representation, but it
would be a good basis for manual amendment, adding expression details,
etc., and probably a lot quicker than trying to use a grid over the
roll, or whatever.

Good luck,
John Farmer, UK
