Hello everyone -- I hope you can stand another horror story regarding
the perils of Perflex, and cheerfully remove it from any player stack
without crying too much. I'm surprised it hasn't been mentioned yet...
Several years ago some friends of mine restored a fine Wurlitzer
theatre organ, enlarged it, and added a Möller-Artiste player that they
installed in their home, twice. All of the pouches, etc., were done in
Perflex, the first time. Ouch.
Now then, considering how many pouches are in most players, as opposed
to how many there are in a large theatre organ with a player, that's
got to be the worst Perflex disaster of all time! But this story has
a happy ending; the organ is playing and the owners' marriage is still
intact.
So just remember this little nightmare the next time you're removing
the remnants of Perflex, as you sand and scrape down a pouchboard with
only eighty-eight little circles of angst. Pouch leather, expensive
though it may be, is a real bargain when you consider the odds it will
out-live the person installing it. Persons experimenting with
new-fangled "better than original" leather substitutes deserve to do
the job over again -- _at least!_
