Troubleshooting Pouches in Modern Universal Player
By John A. Tuttle

Hi All, Yesterday I finished another web page about the modern
Universal player piano. This one involves a troubleshooting technique
that I've used for a number of years to determine if the pouches are bad.

It's fairly well known in the player community that Perflex pouches are
going to fail sooner or later -- generally sooner. But, it's almost
surprising how many Universal players are still going after all these
years. However, as the pouches start failing in these units, I thought
it would be nice to offer the public a way to prove to themselves
whether or not they have bad pouches in their instrument.

As we sometimes have to resort to using words to explain certain
problems with instruments, and knowing that words mean different things
to different people, I wanted to come up with a way to help people test
the pouches without using subjective terms. So, I shot a video (albeit
somewhat crude) that serves as a 'show-and-tell' explanation.

The new page is located at http://www.player-care.com/pouches.html

Musically,
