Hi All, I worked on another 'modern' Universal player today. As
suspected, it has bad pouches, but that's not why I'm writing.
What I'm trying to find out is when the piano was manufactured.
I thought the serial numbers were in the Pierce Piano Atlas, but all
that's there is one serial number and a date of 1982 (not much help).
What's interesting is that the serial number on the strung back (in
the oval cutout in the plate, where the serial number is normally
located) is 746327. The serial number of the player mechanism is 5635.
That's the number on the little aluminum plate that's on the shelf
behind the spoolbox.
The large serial number on the strung back leads me to believe that
the piano was made by a company other than Universal. I checked the
other name associated with Universal, which is American, but I came up
empty there too.
So, does anyone know who made the pianos for Universal?
Musically,
John A Tuttle
