Duo-Art Restoration Materials
By Tom Brody

I recently acquired a 1926 Stroud Duo-art upright. I am trying to
repair the instrument well enough that I can enjoy some of the rolls in
my collection and also determine what other issues need attention. The
piano will need a complete restoration when I can find time in my
schedule, which may be quite a while from now.

Currently known problems are: expression accordion pneumatics need
recovering, three valves in the stack need attention, and complete
tubing replacement is needed. I am almost finished with the tubing
replacement. I am not kidding myself into thinking that merely
repairing the instrument will bring it back to its former glory. This
will be a long term project I know.

My question is this: I need to find the best cloth and/or leather for
the accordion pneumatics and valve pouches, and the seal cloth for the
outside of the stack, after I repair the valves. Does anyone have a
recommendation for the proper materials and where to purchase these
items in small quantities? I have read in the MMD archives some of the
horror stories of people using the wrong material, and I would like to
avoid that scenario. Any advice would be appreciated.
