In composing this "admission," I'm reminded of the scene in the
"Wizard of Oz" when Dorothy and her trio of companions learn that
the man behind the curtain, the Wizard, is a mere mortal, with no
profound agenda other than to be helpful. What he accomplishes is
to simply bring forward the attributes that were already inherent
in his disparate explorers.
During a 1986 visit to New York, contact was made with a very kind
carousel concessionaire, Carlos Colom. He was then operating the
Flushing Meadows ride. The organ was silent. I composed two music
sampler cassette tapes for Carlos, with the intent that they would
inspire him to invest some money in the instrument and return it to
service. Carlos eventually lost the concession and the organ has
remained silent. The cassettes sustained a life after the concession.
It never occurred to me that, more than two decades later, one of the
tapes would surface and challenge enthusiasts to identify the organs
and tunes thereon. I apologize for the resultant confusion and such.
In partial appeasement, I will provide below the notes that I made at
the time concerning the selections on both tapes. None were recorded
live; they were all from LP recordings sold in the marketplace.
The tune names below are those given on the LP sleeve notes. Whether
they're accurate or not, I haven't checked. The same is true of some
of the organ identifications; they're from the albums and are not
always correct. I translated the tune titles for Carlos, perhaps
inaccurately in some cases; you will find them mostly in German on the
LP sleeves. Many of the LPs, but not all, have been available on eBay
in recent years. Many have never appeared as CD conversions.
I did not make specific notations about the albums utilized. They were
all then readily available. They included some from Chor Music, others
issued by Curt Baum, and a couple individual issues, such as those from
the Utrecht and Thursford museums. I've included a note when it might
help to complete or confirm the desired knowledge. There are a few
that I've not recalled, but the organ identification will surely enable
someone to complete the identity.

failed to locate one for either cassette. It is pleasing to learn that
the melodies have been enjoyed and inspired some.
Off to the balloon!
