I have for sale a very late Model 12 Weber Duo-Art Pedal Electric
grand in a semi-art case. The instrument is approximately 6 foot 6
inches long, dates from the early 1930's and bears serial number 81856.
Instead of in the usual Aeolian position under the keyboard, the
pneumatics, tracker bar and motor are on the top, above the grand
action. The action is very compact and easy to lift out to service and
regulate the piano action. A four-lobe pump is built in to the piano
underneath, with its original motor.
The instrument is in superb unrestored condition and still has all
its original cloth and tubing, although some of the tubing has now been
removed as part of a survey to ascertain the amount of work required
to bring it to tip top playing condition. No previous restoration work
is visible, so restoration will be an easy and enjoyable task, as you
will not have to undo any other person's work.
I would recommend that this quality rare Weber Duo-Art reproducing
piano will require a full restoration to the pneumatic action. The
pianos frame and the stringing are in very good order and I believe do
not need to be restrung. However, the piano action could do with a
thorough overhaul. I believe that the previous owners had the hammers
resurfaced a number of times, as they played it often. If I was
keeping the instrument I would either fit new high quality hammers or
have the original ones recovered by one of the German specialists, who
can now recover hammers to such a standard that they are almost equal
to new hammers.
The case is mahogany and the instrument has double fluted legs with
a small amount of carving at the top of each leg. The condition of
the case is excellent and could be left as it is, but the purchaser
may wish to touch in some very small scratches and a few other minor
blemishes. There is no bench with it; as far as I know this model was
never sold with a bench.
I bought this instrument a few years ago to keep as my own personal
instrument, but I also have a Welte Mignon and I can not keep both!
I have also acquired a Model 77 Starkton Wilhelm Bruder organ that
I have nearly finished restoring, so my interests have changed. I will
also not have the time to complete the Weber.
It is very rare in this country to find an instrument which has not
been got at by amateur restorers or bad professionals, as it is still
as it left the factory! For photographs and further information and
to discuss price, please contact me by email and then I will reply with
a telephone contact number.
