Mason & Hamlin RBB Ampico & Stahnke LX
By John Del Carlo

[ In 090902 MMDigest Pat DeWitt asked how two player systems could
 [ coexist in one piano.

Hi Pat, This was quite a feat of engineering on the part of my
rebuilder, Randy Cox, and he has done a superb job. He was one of
the first authorized installers of the Stahnke LX player. Located in
Anaheim Hills, California, he has been rebuilding player pianos for
some 40+ years.

I don't know of any shortcomings in either the LX or the Ampico, they
both play beautifully. The keys had to be extended in the rear about
1/2 inch; other than that, and the ability to fit everything in there,
they both work well. Another change was the way the LX damper mechanism
works -- it had to be fitted horizontally instead of vertically, and is
actuated by a steel cable and pulleys, this was necessary to fit it in.
If you have any more questions, I am sure Randy would be happy to
explain it further. Here is his web site: http://www.pianocorder.com/

All the best,
John Del Carlo
