Hi all, I was at a collector's house a couple weeks ago with a friend
and we both enjoyed hearing a great old QRS roll, "Refrigeratin' Mama"
(Papa's Gonna Make You Hot), QRS 3506 from June, 1926, composed by
Walter Wasserman(?) and played by "Sid" Laney (J. Lawrence Cook).
There is some good blues "playing" on this roll and, to top it off,
the lyrics are hilarious. My musician friend wants to learn this tune
to perform, so we need either a copy of the roll or a recording of it.
(We didn't manage to get a recording at the collector's house.)
According to Google search results, a copy of this roll recently sold
on eBay for a whopping $122 (or $99, depending upon which search result
you believe), which is out of my price range. Does anyone have this
roll scanned, so I could perhaps buy a recut for a more reasonable
amount? (Or at least get hold of the scan file, which hopefully has
the lyrics as well).
Or -- does anybody have a copy of this roll and access to a good,
in-tune player piano on which to record it? I would love a copy of
this recording. We haven't found the original sheet music yet, so if
someone has a copy of _that_ it would beat out having the roll _and_
the recording. Remember, we need the lyrics.
For a trade, I have plenty of old recordings which I could burn on
a CD for you. Most are solo piano and popular-oriented (ragtime,
blues, 1920's, salon). I have some band stuff as well.
RAGards,
Andrew Barrett
P.S.: Please note, this is _not_ the same tune as "Refrigeratin' Papa"
(Mama's Gonna Warm You Up), sung by Ethel Waters, nor is this any part
of "Hard-Hearted Hannah", although the idea for this entire tune may
have originated from that one line in "Hard-Hearted Hannah", since that
tune is a couple years older than this one.
