Hi David, I think I may be of some assistance to you in your
quest for a circa 1905 Thorens AD30 governor bracket and assembly.
However, please note that the speed regulator/governor assembly on
the solid-cast bedplate version that I have is similar to the 1930s
version but uses a different endless screw configuration and has
a different pinion gear assembly.
The 1930s version uses a thin brass 27-tooth pinion gear (almost
the same as the vintage brass and more recent plastic ones), and the
1930s endless screw is much longer and thinner than the earlier solid
baseplate model I have, where the endless screw portion of the shaft
is only 11 mm long x 9 mm wide and interfaces with a 20-tooth pinion
gear that is 4 mm thick and 11 mm in diameter.
Additionally, the version I have (which may, or may not predate the
one you have), has an additional swing down bracket, attached to the
governor bracket, that appears to have been used for support/stability
or to quiet the governor assembly. It also had some sort of leather
bindings, as I can see remnants but do not have the complete assembly.
(I have the bracket, endless screw shaft and the interfacing pinion
gear, but I'm missing the fan/blade and lock spring as well as the
central winding gear, ratchet, and main spring assembly.)
Please contact me to discuss your mechanism and how I may be able to
assist you with the parts I have available. I'd also like to discuss
Thorens AD30 history and dating information with you if you can spare
the time.
* To anyone reading this, please contact me to discuss what you may
know about Thorens AD30 production, development, and the dating
associated with the major and minor nuances and changes to the Thorens
AD30 4-1/2" disc player mechanism over the last 100+ years.
